I love a shawl. When I saw this Spiral Shawl during a Design Wars Challenge, I knew I had to try it! If you haven’t checked out Design Wars, please do so, it’s a great challenge, featuring designers and yarn, bringing you great new patterns, in a fun competition.
This is such a great pattern. Not only well written, but great photo tutorials to help. I love finding patterns that look absolutely hard, but once you start working them, they are not at all! That is this pattern.
I used Red Heart’s Unforgettable Yarn for this shawl, the spirals are Echo, and the edging is Cappuccino.
Here is a shot of the different Unforgettable yarns. This yarn is a bit of a pain to work with at times, if you need to frog, it has a tendency to break, but for ME, I find it worth it since the final product is so beautiful. It also has a bit of a thick and thin type yarn, there some areas are thinner then a worsted weight, and some areas that are a bit thicker. I happen to like this about the yarn, while others may not.
While I think this yarn is great for this shawl, you can use any other worsted weight yarn to make it. I’ve seen some done with every spiral a different color. Which I adore too.
This pattern isn’t just a shawl… nope it can also be turned into a blanket, table runner, coasters, scarf. There are diagrams at the end of the pattern to show you the ideas.
I do suggest if you are going to use the Unforgettable yarn to make this shawl, use a regular worsted weight yarn first to try out the spiral construction, just to get the feel of the pattern if your not familiar with making spirals.
